There are some days when you wake up and worry about the things that you have to do. Then there are others when your first thought is, ‘let’s get things done.’ To be able to harness this energy is a wonderful feeling in itself. Thesis proposal to write? Let’s do it. Reports to submit? Start writing. Haven’t exercised? Let’s go for a jog. There’s something inside you that tells you to keep on moving from one task to the next as soon as you finish each one. You don’t need a break in between because it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like you’re creating something. You’re bringing to this world something that wasn’t there before. An idea or an institution or a simple good deed for the day.
I am not talking about the Steven Covey, Dale Carnegie or Anthony Robbins bullshit. I am not talking about dealing with your deadlines. Deadlines become deadlines when someone is forcing you to do something you don’t want to do. We always have a choice. Most of us prefer to take the ‘safer’ or ‘more secure’ option. What is safe or secure anyway? Live your life, you only have one. It’s a wonderful world out there with so many things to do. Isn’t going for the safer option criminal? Don’t you want to be part of something bigger than you? How can you sleep for 10 hours? How can you ‘settle down’?
Janis Joplin once said, “You are what you settle for”. Today, I woke up and I decided, “I am inspired, let’s get things done.”
